ello fellow Flyers. Summer has really arrived full strength, with a couple of mini-heat waves already. It's getting so hot that some friends I know are taking to running in the dark of night.

The columns in this issue (when appropriate) are devoted to the coming of summer. I especially recommend Joe Yates' Coach's Corner, which gives solid advice on hot weather running. Anne Halpern's "Healthy Eating" column also tackles the problem from the culinary perspective.

s this newsletter goes, in spite of not having a special event such as the Awards Dinner (featured in the February Issue) or the Boston Marathon (featured in May) it's a very full issue. Scott Cohen's report of his trip to South Africa to run the Comrades Marathon paired with Elle Green's reporting on the sights, sounds and memories of South Africa constitute a moving pair of articles, and Heather Marcellis' article on "Giving Back to Central Park" is a timely reminder that we have a stake, and an active part in keeping the Park as beautiful as it is.

Pictures

any of the photos you see in the articles of this newsletter are actually a set of photos, one behind the other. If you click on the photo, the next one in the set will appear. So whenever you see the note "(Click on the photo for the next one in the set)" under a photo, you'll know there's a number of others waiting to be viewed.

I've also used the automated slide show feature in two ways: for a few articles when there are a modest number of pictures in the group, I've set the slideshow to start automatically and cycle through the group in an endless loop. This is used, for example, in the Foot Notes column. In other places (such as the Central Park article), where the reader is likely to prefer starting the slide show going when reaching a certain spot in the text, I've added a feature where you can start the slide show by clicking on the first picture. Look for the note "(Click on the photo to start the slideshow)" under a photo for that feature. There are lots of possibilities, but I try to pick the one that best fits each particular article. Let me know if you think I've succeeded (or not).

The Index for the Whole Year!

e have also updated the single page index of all the articles published in the newsletters for the entire year. We've added this issue's articles as well as the profile published between full newsletters. So if you recall an article on "Snowshoe Racing", for example, but don't remember where you saw it, just bring up the index, and you'll find it. The index is accessible as the very last link on the left sidebar of each issue, and it's also an option of the Communications Menu, on the red menu bar of the Flyer web site.
