30 Flyers finished today's race, which traditionally kicks off Harlem Week, the annual celebration of the beautiful neighborhood north of Central Park. Flyer Arnaud Clairay, a proud 15-year resident of Harlem, was among them. Arnaud is a big fan of this run. "It's always a pleasure to run here," he said after the race, "and to watch the mansions and the other historic homes of the neighborhood." According to Arnaud, the run is a unique opportunity to showcase Harlem to New Yorkers.
Abe Lee led the Flyers' team in an astonishing 18:20, with a pace of 5:54, and an age-graded percentage of 76.9%, a huge improvement on his previous PR of 19:16 of last May. Tim Decker came second for the team in 19:29 (8th AG, 6:17, 77.66%). Howard Choi came third in 22:44 (7:19). Our incredible Delton Mace made it to the podium again: he was second in his age group with a finish of 28:37 (9:13).
Stephanie Tang led the women’s team in 27:08 (8:44). Andi Gillentine came second for the team in 27:18 (8:48). Deb Saat came third in 27:26 (6th AG, 8:50, 71.05%). Our amazing Fran Breslauer continued her winning streak and won again her age group in 32:52 (10:35, 76.20%).
This was the sixth club points race of the season and, in addition to Fran's award, the women Flyers came away with a team award too. The 60+ women's team, including Deb, Lis Shlansky (29:03, 9:21) and Fran finished third, scored 10 points and are consolidating their third position in the club standings. Congrats to the team on this fantastic award!
3 more Flyers finished in the top ten of their age groups: Colm Banfield (23:20, 10th AG), Neil Tipograph (23:20, 8th AG, 71.36%) and Jeanine Hartnett (33:49, 7th AG).
