Meet Rachel Duncan: Nominee for Flyer of the Year

When you're a Flyer, you're part of an incredible team, one where you can make new friends, share experiences, and help each other cross whatever finish line you have your sights on. From MTP to SpeedPass, to pacing runs, co-captaining water stations, or handing out clementines on Marathon day, I always wear my Flyers hat with pride. I am tremendously honored to be nominated for Flyer of the Year.

Meet Erenea Saludares: Nominee for Flyer of the Year
Hello fellow Flyers, I am Erenea Saludares, and I am truly honored to be nominated for the "Flyers of the Year" Award. Since joining the club in 2019, I have experienced first-hand what a warm and welcoming community this is. My involvement has given me a deep understanding of our club's operations, and I've been proud to contribute in several ways:
• Event Management: I have contributed to key events like Social Events Committee , Annual Gala Awards and the Summer Soiree, where I gained hands-on experience in event planning and logistics.
• Race Support: I have directly supported runners by serving at pacing and food/water stations during the 3 Bridges Run, the Little Red Lighthouse Run, The Last Ten Miles, NYC marathon volunteering at 18 miles Gel station and the Fun Run.
• Community Support: Beyond the Flyers, my role as an Achilles Guide since 2018—helping runners with disabilities, especially blind athletes—has honed my skills in support, organization, and adaptability.
I am committed to maintaining our club's vibrant culture while also helping to implement structures that support our continued growth.
Go Flyers!
At your service,
Erenea

Meet Deb Saat: Nominee for Flyer of the Year
In 2016, I decided to spend my last couple of years running, before turning 60, with a running club. While researching the internet, I stumbled upon the Flyers and I noticed that the members shown in the site’s photos didn’t look too TOO much younger than me, so I took the plunge and joined! Now almost 9 years later, far beyond my goal of quitting at the age of 60, I’m still out there training and even participating in races all over the world. I owe my renewed outlook in running to the NY Flyers! I realized and witnessed what’s possible and still do! And because club members continue to encourage and cheer me on, I am compelled to give back to the club however and whenever I can.
I’ve contributed to the club in various facets such as: serving on the Executive Board as Vice President for 3 years, organizing and leading various long and FUN runs, serving on various social and gala committees, and creating several videos and photo presentations for Flyers events. I’m currently a member of the Advisory Board, serving as Team Captain for my age group and a member of the Awards Committee.
Though the above roles help the club function, I am most proud of being the Co-Founder/Leader of the DEBS Book Club, along with my partner in crime, Debi Unger. In 2019, while attending a Flyers Holiday party, I mentioned to her, who I didn’t really know at the time, that I wanted to start a running book club and she said, “I do too!” Six weeks later on Jan 9, 2019, we held our first session with the book, “Endure.” Since then, the book club has read over 30 books and invited over 20 authors and athletes to speak. Our book club is just one of many examples where a Flyer is allowed to use the club as a platform to propel their ideas and special interests.
I am extremely honored to have been nominated for Flyer of the Year and I’m especially honored to be among my fellow nominees, Rachel and Erenea. 💕
Whenever I attend or volunteer at a Flyer event, I am reminded how grateful I am for finding this amazing club and especially for making so many supportive, fun loving and lifelong friends, Not only have I become a better runner but also a better person overall, Thank you to all the Flyers and to the Executive Board members for your consideration. Go Flyers! ❤️
