Organizer: New York Flyers Running Club
When: Sunday October 22nd, 2023. 8:00 AM Start. Check-in begins at 7:15 AM. Please arrive no later than 7:35 a.m. so we can start the run promptly at 8:00 AM. The Run will begin with the
12:30-13:30MM Run/Walk group first. Subsequent pace groups starting with 8 minutes/mile group will start afterwards at approximately 5-minute increments.
Where: We will meet at the at the northeast corner of 59th and 1st, just SOUTH of the Queensboro Bridge underpass. The meeting place will be the small plaza in front of the TJ Maxx and the former Food Emporium. Look for the runners decked out in NY Flyer Gear!
Aid Stations: Water, Gatorade, and gels at around Mile 6.5 at 110th Street & Fifth Avenue in front of the Duke Ellington Statue. At the FINISH we will have coffee, water, Gatorade and bagels.
Baggage: Drop-off at start location (59th and 1st Avenue); Pick-up at finish (turnaround circle in front of Tavern on the Green in Central Park at West 67th Street). BAGGAGE CHECK IS AT YOUR OWN RISK AND IS OFFERED AS A CONVENIENCE TO RUNNERS. Baggage pick-up will close at 10:45 AM, which gives you plenty of time to finish the run. Please remember to pick-up your bags. Please arrive at the finish by 10:45 AM.
Toilets: There are no toilets at the start. The nearest facilities to the start are a Starbucks two blocks north, but it has one stall and we have 150 runners. Arrive very early or else don't count on using it. Along the route, there are toilets in Marcus Garvey Park as well as in Central Park, but pacers will not make stops at these toilets given the relatively short length of the run. There are toilets at the finish at Tavern on the Green.
Pace Groups We will send out groups by pace beginning with the 13:00 MM Run/Walk Group, then the 12:30 - 8:00 MM groups a few minutes apart. Each group will have at least one designated pacer.
Please consider signing up to be a Pacer HERE
Please stay on the sidewalk as much as possible. Be very careful crossing streets, especially the larger Manhattan streets such as 79th Street, 86th Street, etc., as well as some busy streets in the Bronx. Please do not run through red lights! Avoid running in the bike lanes.
We strongly suggest that you carry some cash, a metro card and a phone, plus a copy of the route and directions.
We will need many Pacers and Volunteers to make this run happen.
