June 11, 2022 @ 8:00 am - 11:00 am
NY Flyers NYRR Mini-Cheer Zone
Details: Let's get a big Flyer turnout for the 50th Anniversary of Mini, the world's original woman's-only road race. NYRR has invited Jackie Marsh Dixon (the winner of the first Mini), along with Kathrine Switzer, Deena Kastor, and Nina Kuscsik, Lynn Blackstone, Pat Barrett, and Jane Muhrcke (4 of the "Six Who Sat" at the 1972 NYC marathon. The professional field includes Peres Jepchircher (the current Olympic, NYC, and Boston Marathon Champion (only person male or female to have won all 3); Senbere Teferi (the 5k world record holder); and 2 time Mini champion Sara Hall.
“I have heard about the Mini and how it is a wonderful celebration of women and running,” Jepchirchir said. “It is very important to me that I use my success to inspire young women and girls coming after me. It is very special to be able to return to New York City after my marathon victories in New York and Boston to be a part of the 50th anniversary of this race.
When: Saturday, June 11th - Professional wheel chair division starts at 7:50 and field at 8:00 A.M. Runners will enter park around mile 1, and we will be at about mile 6- so the professional women will go by our cheer zone at approximately 8:30.
Where: CHANGE OF LOCATION. West side slightly North of the 72nd Street transverse. Look for Wendy and the Flyers sign. (Due to NYRR course change this will allow us to see runners coming into the park slightly south of 72nd street and for right before the finish and will also be easy for runners to stop by after they finish and say hello and cheer)
