October 8, 2023 is a day that will go down in running history: Kelvin Kiptum lowered the marathon world record to 2:00:35! Meanwhile, 56 Flyers sped through the Staten Island Half in perfect running weather. If you loved the downhill finish in the Bronx, you may have cursed the uphill finish in Staten Island. Nonetheless, most Flyers had a great day.
Arlyn Apollo was first female Flyer at 1:38:07 (7:30/mi, 6th Place AG, 76.11 AG%) followed by Kristel McKanna in 1:41:43 (7:45/mi, 12th Place AG, 72.68 AG%) and Yumi Morshige in 1:44:34 (7:59/mi, 10th Place AG, 75.94 AG%).
The first male Flyer to cross the finish line was Tim Decker in 1:28:27 (6:45/mi, 7th Place AG, and 77.36 AG%) followed by Deniz Saat in 1:33:06 (7:07/mi) and Arnaud Clairy in 1:40:29 (7:40/mi)
Among other notables, Mindy Statter ran away with the 65-69 bronze medal 🥉 in a time of 2:02. Delton Mace triumphed over his fellow 75-79 year olds to win the division in a time of 2:13.
Those who zoomed to achieve their NYRR half marathon PR include Carla Miragliotta, Chris Moy, Kristin Siegle, and Arlyn Apollo (her previous PR half was from way back in 1999!)
The Staten Island Half also counted toward the Flyers own internal club competition -- click here to view the standings: https://nyflyers.org/2023-flyers-age-group-results/ Each Flyer's fastest eight races out of the twelve races in the competition are what determines our intra-club age group winner.

GO FLYERS!
